This is a quick and easy knit. Button it all up or leave a few open. Lots of options.
Materials
Sqwish Cuddle Toes Sock Yarn – 50 grams
Knitting Needles – Size 3.75 mm or US size 5
5 Buttons – ½ to ¾ inch
Abbreviations
k – knit
p – purl
Cast on 55 stitches.
Row 1 (right side) – p 3, *K1, p3* repeat to end of row
Row 2 – slip 1st stich knitwise k2, *p1, k3* repeat to end of row
Row 3 – slip 1st stitch purlwise p2, *k1, p3* repeat to end of row
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 21 inches or desired length ending with wrong side facing
Buttonhole row – Keeping in pattern, slip 1st stitch purlwise, work 5 stitches, bind off 3 stitches, *work 6 stitches, bind off 3 stitches* 3 more times (5 buttonholes) work to end of row
Next row – keeping in pattern cast on 3 stitches at each buttonhole
Continue in reverse rib pattern for 1 inch
Bind off loosely
Block lightly
Sew in ends and sew buttons on edge opposite buttonholes

For the buttonhole row and next row, what does work in pattern mean, it gets out of sequence for the previous rows, how do you know what sequence to follow?
Slip the first stitch and keep working in the reverse rib pattern, knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches, the new stitches will be worked into the p3,k1 pattern.
